I have just found out one single detail about the original Battlestar Galactica that really, really intrigues me.
It had a guest performance by Fred Astaire. Fred. Astaire.
I ... don't even know.
But that also means that if I ever got, say, Freema Agyeman and Orson Welles in a game of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", I'd be fine. Heh.

I'm not going to talk about how I got my written evaluation from CTD today and somehow didn't have the good sense to delete it without reading it, because it is a *load* of crap, so much so that I'm considering sending it to a couple of my students, so they can see how hilarious it is. If I try to talk about it, I'll just end up ranting about how *completely preposterous* it is, and then I'll be all mad and wound-up.
Instead, here are some good things about today:
--The Readings in Music Theory class is extending into next semester, and the proposed topic for next semester is... MILTON BABBITT. MY FAVORITE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE THEORIST. With random excursions into Boretz! w00t!
--I have groceries now! It's been three weeks since I've had time to buy groceries! My fridge looks so happy.
--I am still alive!

My new favorite thing to do, as of this afternoon, is to sit comfortably on my new (USED!) couch and use my new (WIRELESS!) internet. It's so much better than sitting anywhere else and doing the same thing.
Another favorite activity has become cataloguing the linguistic misunderstandings employed by ManMeat (his snazzy new nickname, hope you like it). The latest and best was the over-application of the goose-geese, foot-feet rule of pluralization to include noodle-needle. Such moments can be neither bought nor photographed.
Favorite new movie is the just-made-public pixar flick, "Up". I could quote it all day long. It makes me want a floating house and a talking dog and a grumpy old man to be my friend. Also a big fan of RedBox, my latest source of cinematic glee.
This last week has been characterized by vast quantities of waiting. Waiting to have internet. Waiting to hear back from my job interviews. Waiting for the butternut squash to soften. Waiting, as you may infer from my grim tone, is not one of my treasured activities. The good part is that since I have no television to distract me from my gathering angst, I've actually been highly productive. This was the week of buying and transporting the couch to my apartment, finally sorting the vast pile of clothes on my floor, buying an immersion blender, taking ManMeat to the zoo, signing up for a free trial membership at the gym and actually going 5 times, and experimenting in the kitchen with sun-dried tomato & cottage cheese rolls (with almond flour, of course), cashew curry, mashed cauliflower with blue cheese, pumpkin gnocchi with herb cream sauce (without potatoes or cream), cheese crackers & guacamole, and brussel sprout & apple salad (don't make that face. It's delicious). Not to mention endless playtime with my favorite notebook.
Didn't need that many minute details of my life? Don't have time to read them in your busy life? But I have time to write them. Here's hoping that stops before I start fingerpainting the walls out of sheer restless energy.

I think I'll watch The Prisoner miniseries this Sunday. I never watched the classic series, but am vaguely familiar with the premise. (A secret agent held in a village where everyone gets called by numbers. Very surreal. Lots of trying to figure out what the hell is going on.) I just read a review in the paper that gave it 3 stars, so that's encouraging. I think I'm in the mood for something trippy.
I actually watched The Office last night. (As well as my regular 30 Rock.) Both were funny, but the part that amused me the most was ( spoilers for The Office )

Castle was mentioned very favorably in an article that was really about what NBC is doing wrong.
